Water demand soars

Water demand has increased sharply probably due to the recent heat wave that swept across the country.

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) communications manager Matida Mmipi said in Gaborone yesterday that though they have always observed increased water demand during summer seasons they have recorded an even higher demand in the past few days.

Expert observers suspect that the high demand for water could be due to the heat wave, which raised temperatures to above 40 Degrees Celsius in some areas across the country. She said that though the heat wave has come and gone, water demand has remained high. Last week, the Department of Meteorological Services warned against a heat wave that lasted about five days.
