Water crisis looms

Addressing journalists in Gaborone yesterday, Mudanga said that the takeover of provision of water throughout the country from the defunct Water Affairs has proved more challenging than anticipated and P7 billion is needed in the next four years to achieve the nation's vision of accessing safe and clean water.
He explained that the merger of 18 organisations that include district councils and department of water affairs, with a staff compliment of 3,000 in just two years has created challenges. The situation was not helped by the poor infrastructure WUC inherited from the water suppliers and the frequent pipe bursts in some major villages such as Mahalapye, Kanye and Molepolole.
