Wastewater for greater Gaborone

The people of Gaborone and surrounding villages will begin to drink and cook with treated wastewater, come 2014.

About P340 million has been set aside for the ambitious project. The government is moving fast with the ambitious project to reclaim and recycle wastewater at Glen Valley ponds that collects there from kitchens and ablutions in Gaborone.

The wastewater will be treated to drinkable water standards to augment water supply to the Greater Gaborone area. According to the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, the project will contribute 20 million litres of water per day, which amounts to 15 percent of demand in the Greater Gaborone area that embraces Mochudi and its peripheral villages, Odi, Tlokweng, Ramotswa, Otse, Gabane and Molepolole, among others.
