Waste Oil Management Must Improve - Opelo

Tshole Trust, an environmental conservation organisation, hosted a dinner dance at The Big Five Lodge whose theme was," Together we can, our collective efforts will help us keep used oil out of our environment", last Friday.

Speaking at the dinner, the director of the Department of Waste management and Pollution Control (DWMPC), Jimmy Opelo said: " Tshole Trust exists to coordinate and improve the effectiveness of Botswana's waste oil management initiatives through provision of receptacles or tanks and to elevate awareness about responsible waste management throughout the country."Opelo alluded to the fact that used oil is a hazardous waste that needs to be handled with care.

He said toxic metals such as lead, barium and others that are found in used oil can cause life threatening illnesses like cancer and could also cause changes in generic formations in the human body.
