After leading his party to victory, sweeping 45 of the 57 elected seats of the National Assembly, Ian Khama was sworn in as the President of the Republic of Botswana in what many say was "a rather silent ceremony".
There was not a single foreign head of state or government at his inauguration, which was broadcast live on Btv and Radio Botswana. The comity of nations to which Botswana belongs was represented only by its envoys resident in the country.
