A warrant has been issue for the arrest of Lobtrans manager Sam Asmal following questionable business transactions detected by the police.

The company is under liquidation. Sergeant Thalinah Sethatho of the Serious Crime Squad said that Asmal is required to clarify questionable dealings in his business. "I have been able to talk to him over the phone and he told me he is in South Africa but he is not feeling well. We have informed him about a warrant for his arrest," she said.

Sethatho said that during their investigations, they came across suspicious transactions where the same property such as a truck was used to acquire money from different financial institutions. The suspect transactions were discovered when creditors went to the police for help. It was realised that a number of creditors had the same claims against the company when the police met with the liquidator. "For instance, we found registration numbers for the same trucks apparently being used in several financial transactions," she said. She said that they are still working to establish who the owners of the disputed assets are. She was confident that Asmal will be arrested.
