Warning: Fake notes in circulation

FRANCISTOWN: Tutume police are currently investigating a case of fake notes being circulated in the village.

According to Tutume Station Commander Superintendent Vusimusi Jorowe, they received a report from the local Barclays Bank branch.  "The bank reportedly retrieved the fake notes amongst cash deposited by local outlets Choppies Supermarket and Pep Stores," he said.   Jorowe said the fake P100 note has a serial number of AB0918477 while the P200 note serial number is AB0720521.

He pleaded that members of the public should check banknotes before accepting them.  "Business owners especially, should be aware of this circulating fake money  and train their employees on how to differentiate real banknotes from fake ones because thieves use them to make purchases in their shops," he said.
