Verger's post clarified

In a surprise move, government has appointed Virgil Verger, a partner at Collins, Newman and Company, a law firm which is representing government in the on-going case between government workers and the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) - an Industrial Court judge.

But government spokesman Dr Jeff Ramsay said in a statement yesterday that Verger was appointed judge of the Industrial Court last month, "the said appointment being subject to his assuming duty and taking the oath of office. Verger has neither been sworn-in as a judge of the Industrial Court nor has he assumed duty".

Ramsay said Verger is not a Judge of the Industrial Court yet until he has taken the oath of office and assumed duty. The government spokesman said the Industrial Court erroneously published a roll for cases listed for hearing this month "in which cases were assigned to him in anticipation of his taking the oath and assuming duty.
