Venson-Moitoi's tounge lands her in trouble

MMADINARE: The Minister of Education and Skills Development's statement that she had to protect the rights of students at the expense of teachers' has earned her the wrath of international teachers' union and political party representatives who attended the Botswana Secondary Teachers Union (BOSETU) congress.

Minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, who officially opened the congress in Mmadinare over the weekend, said her mandate was to ensure teachers' welfare and professional ethics, children's rights to education and the nation at large.  But when it came to the teachers' demands for their welfare, she had to choose between the rights of teachers and those of the students.

"I decided to settle to protect the rights of children, not meaning that yours are irrelevant but that was the hard decision I had to make," she said.
