The Minister of Education and Skills Development Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has told Parliament that Limkokwing University of Creative Technology was closed due to indications that there could be damage to property.

She said that the students were demanding that their book allowance be credited into their bank accounts so that they can have an option of buying books from other sources.  Venson-Moitoi said the current agreement is that 50 percent of the book allowance for first and second year students be credited directly into their bank accounts while the other half is given to the institution so that it can be credited into students' cards for buying books from the bookstore located in the school.

This tripartite agreement involved the ministry, Limkokwing management and the Student Representative Council in 2011. The parties agreed that this will be convenient and it will ensure that funds are spent for the intended purpose.Venson-Moitoi said that the students boycotted classes after their discussions with the management of the institution did not yield results in their favour. The students had also written a letter to the Department of Tertiary Education Financing.
