Vendor begs permission to sell raw chicken

FRANCISTOWN: A vendor at the Francistown bus rank has contritely confirmed to knowing that she was wrong to sell chicken without a licence, but insists local government should consider ways of making it possible for her and others like her to carry on with their trade.

Winnet Masimbi, 33, said she has no choice but to sell the chicken because proceeds from the chicken sales help her feed her family. She implored government to come up with legislation that will allow vendors to sell the chicken, which she said they get from Shashe Poultry Farm, which is a legitimate business.

"The by-law people are doing their job by confiscating our produce, but they have to understand that what we are doing is better than stealing or being engaged in corrupt practices," she said.Masimbi was one of the 33 vendors who was raided by the Francistown City Council by-law enforcement officers who confiscated raw chicken pieces that vendors were selling at the bus rank.
