Unions still sneer at four percent offer

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) has said that trade unions that bargained for a salary increment under the aegis of the Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) are still against the four percent offer by government.

Addressing heads of departments in Selebi-Phikwe on Tuesday, BOPEU youth secretary, Kebonyemodisa Watota, said though they are against the offer, it is up to the general membership to give the federation a mandate or direction to negotiate with government. “You are at liberty to come up with suggestions and it will be looked into,” he said.

Watota said they do not want the status quo in the strained relationship between trade unions and government to remain, as those not involved will be caught in the cross fire.
