Unions reject 5% offer

Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) has rejected a five percent salary increment offered by government in a negotiation meeting held on Wednesday.

BOFEPUSU is comprised of five public sector unions namely; Botswana Teachers Union (BTU), Botswana Secondary Teachers Union (BOSETU), Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU), Botswana Land Boards, Local Authorities and Health Workers Union (BLLAWHU) and the National Amalgamated, Central and Local Government and Parastatal Workers Union (NACLGPWU).

Speaking to Mmegi yesterday, BOFEPUSU spokesperson, Goretetswe Kekgonegile said they could not accept the offer as it came with conditions, stating that the increment would be effected in September 2011, only if the economy had picked up by then.
