The Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) has rejected a proposed two percent salary increment by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) in a meeting held on Friday.

DPSM and the public sector unions have been at loggerheads over the salary increment negotiations where they demanded a 16 percent raise, which include inflationary adjustment for the past three years when there was no increment.

DPSM has been adamant that government cannot afford to increase public sector salaries. According to the secretary general of the federation, who is also the president of the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU), Andrew Motsamai, the two percent was on condition that it would be effected in September after the employer has considered the performance of the economy in the first quarter of the 2011/2012 financial year.
