Unionist roots for mergers

FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) deputy secretary general, Patrick Chengeta has emphasised the importance of mergers in the labour movement.

"It is very important for unions to come together. Here we have anything from big unions to very small unions that I prefer to call briefcase unions because they are not functional," he told a workshop organised by the Botswana Hotel Travel and Tourism Workers Union (BHTTWU) at Thapama Hotel, in Francistown over the weekend.

Chengeta asserted that it is critical for unions to understand the importance of coming together.
