Unionist pour scorn on Khama's leadership credentials

Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) official, Jonhnson Motshwarakgole, has said President Ian Khama is not a good leader because he is an irresponsible and arrogant head of state with a racist and colonial mentality.

He said Khama is so irresponsible that he goes around donating blankets to the poor and old in remote areas when there is a national crisis caused by the strike. Motshwarakgole said Khama has a racist and colonialist mentality of the imperial powers who use compassion to patronise people so that they can look up to him as a messiah. He declared that workers constitute a big constituency and can use their vote to change the political landscape.  The veteran unionist was speaking at a rally organised by the opposition parties in Gaboronbe to support the striking civil servants. He said the labour movement intends to use its numbers to unseat politicians who do not support workers.

"We are not politically affiliated, but re nale konopo (we have a large constituency), with our children, our wives brothers and sisters, we will vote for someone who is supportive of our plight. You scratch my back I scratch yours.
