Thousands of United Democratic Change (UDC) supporters, affectionately known as Umbrella, thronged Gaborone Secondary School (GSS) grounds to witness history in the making when members of the opposition coalition launched UDC and also unveiled the party logo.

The parties include Botswana People's Party (BPP), the Botswana National Front (BNF) and the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).

To many people's surprise BNF president Duma Boko was elected the new UDC president and is expected to take the party to the next general elections. According to the BMD president, Gomolemo Motswaledi, who presented the Umbrella structure during the launch, a decision to elect Boko as the coalition president was agreed by him (Motswaledi) and the BPP president Motlatsi Molapisi.
