UB Students Launch Newspaper

The University of Botswana has launched its own newspaper thanks to the efforts of a group of media studies students. The new paper is called UB Horizon. Its editor, Ruth Kedikilwe, said that the paper has been received positively. She revealed that the paper is a brainchild of the Department of Media Studies second and third year students. "We did everything from the formative study to the final product in just a month and a half.

We've worked as a very dedicated team to do everything from writing stories to advertising to layout, and it's been a lot of work. Our advertising team had only two weeks to find advertisements," she said.

The paper addresses a wide range of student and local issues affecting both campus and off-campus communities. Kedikilwe said the publication functions like a T-joint. "We run news coming out of campus for the benefit of the communities out there, and we run news from those communities for the benefit of the university community and also run news from within the campus," she said.
