UB Introduces BSc Mining Engineering Degree

The University of Botswana (UB) will next month start offering a new five-year degree programme leading to the Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering.

According to a UB press release issued yesterday, the programme will be offered in collaboration with the University of Missouri-Rolla in the United States of America (US) for the first three years, after which UB will offer the full programme. Under this arrangement, students will undertake three years at UB before proceeding to UMR for the final two years. Like other science-based UB programmes, it will be open to students who complete the common first year of the BSc programme, as well as to mining engineering diploma holders.

It says students who successfully complete the BSc Mining Engineering will be awarded a University of Missouri-Rolla degree, which is professionally accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering & Technology (ABET). The initial collaborative period of three years will provide UB ample time to build its capacity in terms of facilities and staff to be able to deliver the entire degree programme.
