The Botswana National Front (BNF) branch at the University of Botswana has told party president Otsweletse Moupo to resign. In a letter to the BNF Central Committee, UB MASS said the embattled BNF leader should quit because of the setbacks the party has suffered in his reign.

"In recent months, we have witnessed serious setbacks in the BNF which we attribute to the BNF leadership. (It is these) setbacks that have compelled us to make our position known. To us young lieutenants of the party, the question of whether comrade Moupo should humbly step down is not only material but also inherent. Comrade Moupo should honourably step down from the BNF presidency," reads the letter which was reportedly delivered last Friday.

Moupo was not available for comment as his phone was still off by the time of going to press yesterday. Party spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa was also not available for comment. Deputy BNF president, Olebile Gaborone said he is not aware of the letter. "I have not seen the said letter. Such communications would ordinarily be handed to the party office, so its possible it may have been delivered although I am yet to see it," he said. Moupo has been criticised by party insiders and the general public for his personal and political foibles which have earned him public criticism..
