UB academic advises BDP Central Committee to suspend Khama

FRANCISTOWN: University of Botswana (UB) political science lecturer Dr Zibani Maundeni has advised members of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Central Committee to suspend President Ian Khama if they are not satisfied with the way he is running party affairs.

"As the Central Committee, if they feel the party president is not acting properly, they have the power to suspend anybody including the President," Maundeni told Mmegi on Tuesday evening. He stressed that if the Central Committee feels wronged by the President, "then they should suspend him". He asserted that if the Central Committee does not have powers to suspend its president or gives him too much powers, then it should correct the situation in the party constitution. He said Khama is simply applying what is contained in the party constitution in dealing with situations.

"If these people are facing any problems, then they have themselves to blame. Why did the BDP endorse Khama at their congress when they are against his leadership style?" he wondered.
