This follows the seizure of two slaughtered cows suspected stolen that were found by the police at Motsentsela Lands, on the outskirts of Mmathethe village, last Thursday evening.
The police made the alarming discovery when they stumbled upon the two slaughtered cows in an unattended kraal. Investigations are currently underway, with the police conducting interrogations to identify the culprits responsible for the act and how the cows ended up in the kraal.
Goodhope Police Station commander, Assistant Superintendent Bigani Ntindi confirmed the ongoing investigation into the stock theft case while expressing concern over the increasing prevalence of stock theft in their policing area.
“We have launched investigations to establish how those cows found their way into that kraal and who they belong to. "We have since established that a lot of people are busy carving out a career in cattle rustling,” Ntindi said.
Ntindi urged farmers to adopt robust measures for safeguarding their livestock, emphasising the importance of proper feeding, watering, and registration of their cattle. He implored farmers to develop effective strategies to prevent theft, such as being able to identify strangers in their vicinity, thereby curbing stock theft incidents.
“I call on farmers to develop strong mechanisms that will prevent theft and be able to identify strangers in their areas to curb stock theft," he said.
Moreover, he stressed the significance of taking care of herders and regularly visiting cattle posts to stay connected with their livestock and ensure their well-being.
He impressed the importance of farmers exercising utmost caution and taking proactive measures to protect their valuable livestock.
