Two escapees arrested, four still at large

Two of the seven inmates who escaped from Molepolole Prison last weekend were arrested by Prison Officials at Rail Park Mall on Tuesday afternoon.

The two, Kabelo Mothusi who was remanded on two counts of robbery, and Kago Ncheotsile who was serving seven years in prison for several crimes, were arrested after prison officers trailed them from Rail Park Mall and pounced on them a few metres away from the mall.

The Botswana Prisons Service spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Wamorena Ramolefe confirmed the arrest to Mmegi yesterday. He however said that he could not divulge further details since investigations are still at a premature stage.   Ramolefe said they have launched a joint search team with the police and are working around the clock to arrest the inmates who are still on the run. He added that one inmate, Koziba Chisimosi was arrested shortly after the escape over the weekend and was remanded for vehicle break-ins.  Even though prison officials were cagey with the details of the escape, a source at the organisation tipped Mmegi off that one of the major factors of escapes in prisons such as Molepolole can be attributed to the fact that there are farms owned by the organisation, which make it easier for prisoners to escape as they are sometimes assumed to be working at the farms.
