Two child rapists given 20 years each

FRANCISTOWN: Justice Mphaphi Phumaphi sentenced two men to 20 years each for a brutal rape of a 3-year-old girl on March 27, 2004 at Sechele village in the North East district. When sentencing Nkomo Ben and Boikhutso Ntheke, the judge said he was satisfied that Ben and Ntheke were properly convicted by the lower court.

Justice Phumaphi said the accused were 24 and 19 years respectively at the time they committed the offence. "There are first offenders despite being finger printed. On the other hand there are weighty aggravating circumstances to be considered. In the first place the victim was 3 years who was totally defenceless against adults.

"The gruesome and heinous rape left her traumatised with extensive genital tract wounds leaving her vagina connecting with her rectum. The victim must have suffered  excruciating pain from the moment of bestial rape until the time of surgery. It is not difficult to imagine the emotional trauma she will live with for life," he said.
