Two BNYC chairmen unceremoniously fired

Two youth leaders of the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) have reacted with shock and anger, after receiving dismissal letters from BNYC by chairman Metlha Mokwena.

The duo of Tony Petrus and Gobe Taziba who are District Youth Council chairmen for Gaborone and Lobatse respectively, revealed that they received the letters from Mokwena last week Friday firing them from their positions.  Mmegi is in possession of a copy of one of the letters that reads in part: "After careful consideration, I have arrived at this unfortunate decision to dismiss you from the leadership of BNYC.  These developments are with immediate effect."

In his letter, the BNYC chairman accuses the duo of having held informal meetings aimed at discrediting the youth organisation, behaviour that he emphasised, "is tantamount to gross misconduct that I will not tolerate to perpetuate in the council".  "You will therefore not be allowed to conduct any affairs on behalf of the council, represent the council at any level or display yourself as a youth leader under the banner of the council," reads Mokwena's letter.
