Tutume police investigating rape of teenager

FRANCISTOWN: Tutume Station Commander, superintendent Vusimusi Jorowe said they are investigating a rape case that occurred at Nswazwi village on Saturday.

Jorowe said they received a report that a 15-year-old girl was dragged into the bush around six in the evening on Saturday and raped. He said that the suspect was alleged to be a well-known member of the community,  but was still on the run at the time of going to press.

He said the suspect managed to drag the girl into the bush easily as most of the villages in the north are bushy because of Mophane trees. "It is sad that the girl was walking alone to her neighbours when the intruder met with her, dragged her into the bush and raped her. She was sent to Tutume Primary Hospital where she was treated and discharged. Jorowe said he is worried about rape cases in his policing area, which are high and still increasing. He said most of the suspects are arrested and face charges of rape but still there are some people who continue to commit rape. He therefore encouraged women and children to be always alert especially when walking alone during the night because the police are concerned of these high rape cases.
