Tutume police investigate 'date rape'

FRANCISTOWN: Police in Tutume are investigating a case in which a 20-year-old woman of Boitekanelo ward in Dukwi was allegedly raped by a middle-aged man in Tutume last Sunday.

Station Commander Superintendent Vusimuzi Jorowe confirmed the allegations in an interview yesterday.
"Our preliminary investigations suggest that the young woman was picked up by the alleged assailant in Dukwi on May 25 at night and taken to Tutume.

"The two individuals apparently know each other, but were not in a relationship," said Jorowe. The woman allegedly left Dukwi to attend a festival in Tutume and was given a lift to the venue by the assailant. After the festival the man allegedly forced the woman into his car and drove to his house where he raped her in the early hours of Sunday morning," he explained. The police were informed and the suspect was arrested and detained the same day. "He will appear in court today and his charges will be read out to him," Jorowe said.
