Turn Labour Dept into parastatal-Radibe

PALAPYE: Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) president Jafta Radibe has suggested that the Labour Department should be turned into a parastatal for effective service delivery.

Contributing at the ongoing four-day labour officers' conference in Palapye last Monday, Radibe said the current arrangement is making life difficult for labour officers.

"Imagine, a permanent secretary (PS), who is senior to a labour officer, fires an employee who then takes the right steps of lodging a complaint with the labour officer who will find himself/herself totally constrained to reverse the decision of the boss," he said.
