Tswapong South readies for two by-elections

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Tumasera Seleka and Pilikwe wards in the Tswapong South constituency will go to the polls on February 12, 2012 to elect new councillors.

Letsholo Same - the former councillor of Tumasera Seleka - is deceased while Jeremia Ramodisa of Pilikwe is serving a 10-year jail term for shooting his wife. Both councillors were from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).The BDP held primary elections last weekend to elect candidates for the by-elections in the two wards.

Mmegi is informed that some members of the party's regional committee resigned their positions to contest the primaries. The ruling party is expected to do its best to retain the wards. The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) on the other hand is not preparing for primaries, as their candidates for both wards are unopposed.  Party spokesperson Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang said the BCP is more than ready to take on the ruling party in both wards.
