TSM breaks teachers' hearts

Teachers in junior secondary schools have expressed bitterness at the withdrawal of invitations for interviews for senior teachers in computer studies. The invitations were issued and withdrawn by the Department of Teaching Service Management (TSM) because it was for those with a certificate in computer studies.

The affected teachers wondered where they would get the certificates as some of them are based in rural areas. "We have heard that they want people with certificates from NIIT but you wonder how many would be able to get this because many of us are in the village," the teachers, who did not want to be named, said.

TSM director, Opelo Makhandlela, explained that it would have been unfair to call on teachers for the interview for the position of senior teacher for computer studies when they realised that they did not meet the set criteria.
