The Commissioner of Botswana Police, Thebeyame Tsimako will be awarded the Insignia of Officer in the French National Order of Merit at the residence of French Ambassador in Gaborone, this afternoon. A statement from the French Embassy in Botswana says Tsimako will receive the award for the quality services he accomplished to strengthen bilateral relations between Botswana and France through police cooperation.

The award is an Order of State established by the former President, Charles de Gaulle September 3, 1963. French nationals as well as nationals of foreign countries can receive this order for distinguished civil and military achievements. The President of the French Republic is the Grand master of the order and appoints all other members of the order, by convention, upon the advice of the government.

President Nicolas Sarkozy signed the decree to honour Tsimako upon proposal by French Minister of State, Foreign and European Affairs Alain Juppe in October last year.  The embassy says Tsimako contributed to the success of the yearly regional peacekeeping training sessions initiated by France.
