FRANCISTOWN: Mahalapye East MP, Botlogile Tshireletso has quit the race for the chairperson of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

The former BDP Women's Wing chairperson said over the weekend that she has heeded the call by the party top brass that members should choose between contesting party positions and general elections and not both. "The BDP National Council resolved over the weekend that politicians already holding positions of responsibility that could affect delivery should have a choice as to which position they want to vie for." Tshireletso stressed that she is already the BDP Chief Whip and chairperson of the SADC Parliamentary Forum sub-committee on gender and equality among others.

"President Ian Khama's weekend message emphasised on quality service delivery and availability of office bearers as and when he would need them. In my case, I will definitely be away most of the time and this could clash with the interests of the President and quality service delivery,"
