Triple appointments at UB court controversy

By appointing three executive assistants to vice-chancellor Professor Thabo Fako, the University of Botswana created posts outside the UB structure, The Monitor has learnt.

The appointments were announced by means of a memo in April, prompting criticism that they were at variance with existing structures.

It is understood that the post of executive assistant to the vice-chancellor exists in the UB structure. However, sources say the post has remained vacant "for a long time" and that many are shocked that UB has appointed three people to a one-person post. According to the sources, another irregularity attending the appointments is that they were not preceded by adverts.
