Three men have been arraigned before Broadhurst Magistrate Monashe Ndlovu for bribing a government official to give a clean bill of health to an un-roadworthy vehicle.

Sunil Urath (32), general manager at Sefalana head office, Othusitse Puthego (36) a sales executive at Tata Motors and Upul Kalansoory (43) a workshop manager at Tata Motors are accused of giving Kenosi Molefe (37) a P1,000 bribe to prepare a road worthiness certificate for their vehicle.

Molefe, a principal traffic assistant officer at the Department of Road Transport and Safety, has been charged with extortion by a public officer contrary to Section 100(b) of the Penal Code. It is alleged that on May 19, 2013 at the Maru-A-Pula DRTS office, Molefe accepted the sum offered to him by the other accused men, so that he could declare a vehicle with registration B 665 ARG roadworthy knowing that it was not.  All four men are out on P5,000 bail, and are expected to surrender their passports to the police. They are expected to appear before the magistrate on August 26. They are represented by Unoda Mack.
