Traditional dancer faces charges of defilement

A member of the top traditional group Matsieng will appear before the Village Magistrate court to answer two counts of defilement on Tuesday next week.

Miki Selabe allegedly committed the offence in February 2007 and January 2008 at or around Mogoditshane. It is alleged that the artist had carnal knowledge of underage girls during the said dates. He faces a possible sentence of 10 years behind bars.

His traditional dance outfit is one of the hottest in the market since the release of its album Setswana Sa Borre, which features the hit song Tinto. Recently, the local music industry has been hit by bad news after the likes of Otlaathusa Tshipa popularly known as Deben Natale to his followers found himself on the wrong side of the law. Deben was condemned to a 10-year jail term by a Molepolole magistrate on May 12 for the rape of a 14-year girl. He is serving his prison term in Gaborone. The jailed artist released one of the richest Tswana pop albums in December 2008, inspired by the music of his close relative, Speech Madimabe.
