Too much beer business irks Malesu

SELEBI-PHIKWE: While Chibuku traders in Selebi-Phikwe have embraced the traditional beer regulation, they have suggested that they be allowed to sell it in their homesteads and called for the review of trading hours.

The suggestions were raised during a traditional beer pitso that was held last week at the Town Hall.  One of the traders, Caroline Botsang said it was difficult for traditional beer fermentation to be regulated to determine its readiness for consumption.  She argued that traditional beer can be ready at closing time and that will mean a loss to the brewer.

Rebecca Moses said government's decision to have Chibuku sold in depots is going to make their lives difficult, considering that acquiring a piece of land in Selebi-Phikwe is a challenge.  She also told the minister that some of the traditional beers are seasonal and during the period when they are out of season, traders must be provided with something to fall back on.
