Tobacco firms find market in Third World

According to World Health Organisation's World Health Statistics for 2007, by the year 2030 of the 8.3 million tobacco related deaths that will occur, 80 percent of them will be from developing countries.

By 2015, tobacco related deaths will be 50 percent higher than HIV/AIDS deaths, accounting for 10 percent of deaths worldwide. Additionally, the report points out that in all WHO regions except for Europe, the highest number of smokers can be found among the poor.

It appears as if the message regarding the dangers of smoking is not getting through to the developing world and the poorest of the poor, and tobacco companies are taking advantage of that fact.
