Tlou gets US college post

Former Health Minister, Professor Sheila Dinotshe Tlou, has been appointed to the Beloit College's 11th Marvin Weissberg Professorial Chair in International Studies for the 2009-2010 academic year. The chair was created to bring to Beloit College prominent persons who have been active in international relations, international diplomacy or global issues.

The aim is to provide students with role models of men and women in public service who are engaged in addressing critical issues of the day. The holders of the Weissberg Chair visit Beloit campus in Wisconsin for up to two weeks and give public lectures, participate in panel discussions, meet with classes, and work with both students and faculty. 

The Weissberg Chair is given opportunities for personal work time, as well as the chance for interactions with colleagues from the Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago areas. Past holders of the Weissberg Chair include Palestinian activist Hanan Ashrawi; Alain Destexhe, one of the founders of Medecins Sans Frontieres; retired US General Anthony Zinni; Justice Richard Goldstone; and Jan Egeland.
