Police are investigating a case in which an unknown man raped a 19-year-old girl in Tlokweng on Monday morning.

Tlokweng Police Station commander, Superintendent Unoziba Rari said the incident occurred at around 11am at Maratanang ward. Rari said on the morning of the incident the victim had been hitch-hiking from one of the senior secondary schools in Gaborone when the suspect gave her a lift.

Rari said the suspect allegedly drove the girl to a bush in Maratanang ward where on arrival he raped her and afterwards drove with her back to Gaborone before dumping her by the roadside.

"We are still hitting a snag in locating the suspect because his vehicle’s registration numbers are not in the system. We do not know if the victim failed to memorise his vehicle’s plate numbers or if he was using fake registration numbers,” Rari said.
