Thugs Drive Ageing Farmers From Masimo

FRANCISTOWN: Long ago, Batswana in the countryside used to take to arable farming with gusto, single-mindedly ploughing, weeding crops and harvesting.

After all, that was their only means of survival. From the masimo they got food, not only for consumption, but also for paying school fees for their children with proceeds from crops they managed to sell.

They also bought clothes for the family. A family that did not plough would be looked at with scorn and called names like "ditshwakga" behind their backs. However, these days, it takes cajoling by government for people to go to the lands when the ploughing season starts.
