Thousands mourn Mma Gaone

Thousands of people from all walks of life, amongst them President Ian Khama, paid their last respects to former First Lady Olebile 'Mma Gaone' Masire in Kanye Saturday morning.

 
Messages of condolences came from as far as Lesotho, Bafokeng Royal family in South Africa, and from the diplomatic community such as embassies of Angola, Namibia and former United States of America (USA) Ambassador to Botswana, Joseph Huggins.

Speaking during the funeral of her mother, Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba described her family as blessed.Masire-Mwamba said they were able to honour her mother popularly known as Mma Gaone throughout the week. "We appreciate the support you gave us to honour our mother. We had a strong mother, whom we could cry on," she said adding that they would support their father, the second president of Botswana Sir Ketumile Masire.
