They Took The Money But They Won't Move

After taking money in compensation for their houses to be demolished for a water and sewerage reticulation system in Old Naledi, the people of Gaborone's oldest ghetto are not willing to move to their new plots in Block 7, reports Monkagedi Gaotlhobogwe

OLD NALEDI: They have taken P3 million from the Gaborone City Council in compensation for their houses to be demolished to make way for the P152-million water and sewerage reticulation project. But some of the 52 affected households are not moving out, while the contractor waits with heavy machinery to start work.

They must move out to Block 7 where the City Council has secured plots for them. Of the 52, only 41 households have committed to the relocation. They signed and got the money, according to Principal Housing Officer, Dizzy Mpoloka.
