After a day-long hearing, the Lobatse High Court said yesterday that it will deliver judgement next week in the historic case in which Gomolemo Motswaledi has challenged his suspension as Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general and recall as Gaborone Central parliamentary candidate by President Ian Khama.

The case started late apparently because the Motswaledi team wanted Justice Ian Kirby to recuse himself. It is understood that the recusal option was abandoned to allow the case to proceed.

First to address court was advocate Roland Sutherland for Motswaledi. Sutherland submitted that Khama's decision to suspend Motswaledi was irregular as it violated the provisions of the BDP constitution. He said the action further violated the rights of Motswaledi under the party constitution. He particularly raised issues of natural justice and said Motswaledi could have been given a hearing.
