The controversial poison that works

In 2009, the Ministry of Healthy announced to the World Health Organisation (WHO) its intention of re-introducing ichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT).

The Northwest district councillors who received the notification through their chairperson's speech during a full council meeting were left agape. No one gave any explanation as to why the once suspended chemical was to be reintroduced.

The full council meeting was told that the targeted areas of DDT spraying would be Ngamiland, Okavango and the Chobe districts. The three districts were said to have been chosen because they are malaria-prone.
