There were big people whose names cropped up during the Mhlauli case. GIDEON NKALA looks at what role they are alleged to have played during the trial.

Goolam Abdullah: - The business magnate owns Game City, Supa Save Stores, Global Holdings and Milimani Mall in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Goolam is said to be the big fish who financed a fabricated case launched by Kadimo Oremeng and Elvidge Mhlauli at the High Court. Apparently the case was meant to delay the construction of Riverwalk Mall to allow Game City to get prime clients. After the case was lost, it is alleged Goolam did not want to pay the costs as he had promised and this resulted in Oremeng spilling the beans. He is said to have threatened to kill Oremeng if he spilled the beans. During the Mhlauli case the magistrate, Lot Moroka asked whether Goolam would be put in the dock and the prosecutor Wesson Manchwe said yes. But will Goolam face justice?

Patrick Balopi - the Speaker of the National Assembly and former cabinet minister is said to have been part of an expensively assembled entourage that accompanied Goolam to Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) where he was to deny allegations of threats to kill. Why did he accompany Goolam to DCEC?
