The agony of long queues

FRANCISTOWN: It was in the late 1990s when one of Botswana's leading commercial banks came up with a campaign to curb queuing in banking halls.

The bank, whose campaign theme was a self-assured question "Why Queue?" said it was going to make sure a customer would be served within 20 minutes after arrival in the banking hall. But something seems to have killed the campaign.

Queues in banks and other facilities have become longer and people develop palpitations when they think of visiting a service provider to make payments. Whether it is banks, post offices, Water Utilities Corporation, Botswana Power Corporation, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation, hospitals and clinics and the Department of Transport, the story of long queuing is the same. People like Robert Kerayang say the long queues are very inconveniencing.
