Tender Committee under investigation over P1m bread

Kweneng District Administration Tender Committee is under investigation for flouting tender procedures after accusations were levelled against it by a bakery owner over the supply of bread worth P1 million.

Reuben Keddy, the owner of Prestige Bakery, charges that he came second in the tender to supply bread to Molepolole College of Education (MCE) even though the winning company (name withheld) has no manufacturing licence and operates as a distributor.

"I was the second best after this company and when I enquired about the background of this company that beat me, I was shocked to realise that it was licensed to operate as a distributor, and not a manufacturer," he said.
An Invitation To Tender (ITT) notice for the said tender, states that "only those tenders, that have been appropriately licensed to trade, manufacture, and or supply the items; and in possession of requisite documentation to import, manufacture and or sell such items according to the laws of Botswana are invited to tender," reads the note in part.
