* The first time the position of Leaders of Opposition was occupied by three different people – Olebile Gaborone, Botsalo Ntuane, Dumelang Saleshando.
* The first time the Botswana Democratic Party split (2010). In the 45-year history, the ruling party, which was formed in 1965, split leading to the formation of Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD). Some disgruntled members of the party, including five Members of Parliament, relocated to the BMD amid an exchange of accusations between them and their former colleagues in the BDP.
The BDP as a party known to have ample resources has always held its primaries well in time, but this time around that was not the case. The first leg of the primaries was held last weekend, with the final leg being billed for the coming weekend. This time around, the BDP failed to shine in its primary elections.
