Teens urge attention on street children

FARNCISTOWN: Sixteen-year-old Mthembisi Chester has appealed to parents to treat their children with love and compassion and act together in that regard while his colleague rounded on society for its stereotypes about street children. "Adults should become fathers and mothers to every child," Chester said

Chester, who is a Form Four student at Francistown Senior Secondary School, was the guest speaker at the commemoration of the Day of the Africa Child at Francistown Stadium last Friday.

Chester said that if people acted as a community, they could effect positive social transformation for the benefit of children. Focusing on the Theme Paper, another child - 16-year-old Keene Ntesang who is in Form Three at Selolwe Junior Secondary School - said given progress made in youth issues, it would be a disgrace if the Day of the African Child was not commemorated.
