Tertiary Education Council (TEC) said on Tuesday that it has cut down the number of first year students to be enrolled in private tertiary institutions.

TEC executive secretary, Dr Patrick Molutsi said at a media briefing in Gaborone that the enrolment has been reduced from over 14,000, requested by the institutions, to 9,840 approved. He explained that the institutions do not have the capacity to handle more students. He said the institutions ask for more students yet they are not prepared for the large numbers.

"We demanded that they put up measures in terms of improved staff and infrastructures to cater for the huge numbers. Of course they grew faster than we had prescribed," he said.
